But Nir Rothenberg has a simpler take: \u201cAI is just another employee. It makes mistakes, just like humans. The difference is, it does it at scale.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That perspective set the tone for our conversation. As CIO and CISO at RapydRapyid\u2014and previously Head of Security at NSO\u2014Nir has a rare vantage point. He\u2019s worked with AI both as tool and threat, and he\u2019s seen firsthand what happens when hype outruns strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"The Human Element in AI-Driven Cybersecurity: A Talk with Nir Rothenberg, CIO &amp; CISO at Rapyd\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Q5sXGAl430w?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like Tsion Gonen recently told me, cybersecurity leaders today aren\u2019t drowning in theory\u2014they\u2019re managing chaos. \u201cPeople talk about theoretical risks,\u201d Nir said. \u201cBut we\u2019ve got enough real ones to deal with already.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nir\u2019s approach is grounded in ruthless prioritization. \u201cI\u2019d rather manage five serious risks well than fail at managing 50 minor ones.\u201d It\u2019s a mindset that echoes what Tom Mes called the \u201cimpossible role\u201d of the modern CISO: responsible for everything, blamed for anything, and rarely resourced for enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That pressure gets sharper in hybrid environments. \u201cWe have to stop treating hybrid work as temporary,\u201d Nir said. \u201cProtecting employees wherever they are requires adaptive, AI-powered security.\u201d It\u2019s a challenge I\u2019ve seen up close at Clarity, where identity is fluid, endpoints are unpredictable, and speed is everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But for Nir, the tech isn\u2019t the hardest part. The human element is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCybersecurity is about people,\u201d he said. \u201cYou have to communicate. You have to collaborate. You have to make decisions\u2014fast\u2014and bring everyone with you.\u201d It\u2019s a philosophy he now applies at Rapyid and shares as an advisor to startups. His message to founders: the best tech won\u2019t matter if you can\u2019t integrate, align, and adapt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That belief in collaboration runs deep. Nir emphasized that startups play a vital role in pushing innovation forward. \u201cThey provide capabilities we can\u2019t always build internally. It\u2019s critical to engage closely with the startup ecosystem.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This aligns with what I\u2019ve heard from leaders like Dorit Dor at Check Point and Elik Etzion at Elron: cybersecurity must move from reactive to proactive. The defense has to be smarter, faster, and\u2014above all\u2014more human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we wrapped up, Nir left me with a challenge: \u201cThe real transformation isn\u2019t in the tools. It\u2019s in the culture. In how well we communicate. How fast we decide. How closely we partner.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The message is clear: AI won\u2019t replace the human in cybersecurity. But it will expose whether your strategy, team, and communication can keep up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you get that part right? You won\u2019t just survive\u2014you\u2019ll thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Michael Matias is the CEO and Co-Founder of Clarity, an AI-powered cybersecurity startup backed by venture capital firms including Bessemer Venture Partners and Walden Catalyst.
